Tech review: Nank Runner Diver 2 headphones bring the noise on land or sea – Steve Wollaston

The fitness and nutrition market has an understandable boom in January as the inevitable New Year’s resolutions kick in. Everyone wants to battle the bulge, begin a ‘new me’ era and banish that December over-indulgence firmly into the past.

Gym memberships soar, the local parks are full of runners and walkers, and the local leisure centre pools are suddenly full of swimmers. One product firmly aimed at those taking exercise on the go seriously, is the Nank Runner Diver2 Pro headphones.

These bone conduction headphones are designed for the serious athlete and people who take their workouts very seriously. Now, I will be totally honest and say I am not an athlete, in fact a quick glance at me tells you just how far removed I am from that.

However, like millions of other people, I have pledged to shift a few pounds and start exercising in 2025, so these are perfectly timed.

The design of the headphones is impressively sleek and ergonomically designed. They rest around your head and over the ears with the ‘bone conduction’ resting over the ear instead of inside it. This uses the shape of your ear to full advantage and uses your skull to transmit the sound more effectively through vibrations to the inner ear.

These headphones do offer the best of both worlds and for those wanting that feeling of something in their ear as opposed to on it, they have a 35° adjustable ear hook design, that means you can tailor the fit of the headphones to your environment.

The headphones have a number of key strengths, one of which is the in-built MP3 storage of 32g, that allows you to store music on them directly, which is perfect for the running and swimming activities.

You do have full Bluetooth functionality for devices for when you are running, walking, or just sitting around – but for swimming, you need to listen via the MP3 storage, which you can load up via a lead.

Which brings me onto the other real strength, the waterproof aspect. It seems unfathomable that a pair of headphones could be used in the water – but that’s exactly the case here.

They are resistant to up to ten metres and with a ten hour battery life, they offer a lot of durability and flexibility for exercise and travel. The rubberised high-end finish shows you they are a sophisticated high-end product that offers comfort, functionality and design, but what about the performance?

The claim that these are noise-cancelling headphones is a fair one, but in my opinion they only do this to a limited level, which is understandable for bone conducting designs.

You will never get that fully immersive shut out that you will get with quality over the ear headphones, but nor should you really expect to.

The bass is also not as powerful as you might hope for, but not to the degree that it ruins the audio experience. The truth is that they offer a crisp and clean, non distorted listening wherever you are and whatever you are doing.

As a package, these are a serious bit of tech and they offer so much in terms of functionality and innovation. They are meant to be sporting headphones, and they will serve that purpose effortlessly.

The Nank Runner Diver2 Pro headphones are available from the Nank website for £129.93

What users have said

Rick on Amazon: It’s only fair to mention that these are definitely not offering super high fidelity when it comes to sound quality. Bone conduction definitely has its uses but I wouldn’t use the Diver 2 Pro’s for intense listening sessions – they’re just not up to the quality of conventional headphones when it comes to music reproduction. With this all said and done, their sound quality is perfectly acceptable when listening at lower volume levels and they work really well when it comes to using them for talking books and the like.

Fernando on Amazon: For sports use: they are very comfortable, the battery lasts a long time and allows me to be aware of what is happening in the environment when I run outdoors and go out on the road with my bike. In addition, the main reason I bought them is because they can be used while I am training in the pool, THEY ARE WONDERFUL, it’s amazing to listen to music while swimming, the sound quality and clarity are wonderful.
