Teenager found with 100 wraps of class A drugs and knife in Chelmsford park

A 17-year-old from London has been arrested after being found with more than 100 wraps of suspected Class A drugs in a Chelmsford park. Officers on patrol saw the teenager while he was in an alley close to New Writtle Street at about 11.40pm on Saturday January 18.

When he became aware of the officers he tried to get away on foot but was quickly stopped and searched in Central Park. Officers discovered 111 small packages of suspected Class A drugs, a sum of cash and a knife, and he was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of a bladed article.

He remains in custody while the Essex Police investigation continues. Detective Chief Inspector Nathan Hutchinson said: “Our officers quick reactions in this case mean a large quantity of drugs have been taken off the streets of Chelmsford.

“We know the direct link between these drugs and violent crime, so any drugs taken off our streets helps prevent that crime. This makes our communities safer and breaks the cycle of criminality they fund.

“We are in our city centre 24 hours a day – on Saturday, our Operational Support Group were in the High Street using our Live Facial Recognition technology to find wanted suspects, and our Community Policing Team were on patrol in the evening. All this work is bringing down crime in Chelmsford and Essex and a whole, and we’re working hard to bring it down even further.”
