Tesco has announced it will be closing all of its main stores on Monday, September 19. The chain is one of many supermarkets to change its opening times for the Bank Holiday.
The supermarket will close its larger stores but keep Tesco Express’ open from 5pm until their usual closing time. This is to allow staff members to pay their respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen’s funeral will take place on Monday at 11am followed by a seven day period of national mourning. The day has been made a Bank Holiday by King Charles III which means schools and certain businesses will close.

On Monday 19th September, in order for our colleagues to pay their respects, our large stores will be closed all day and our Express stores will remain closed until 5pm.”
Waitrose, M&S, Lidl and Aldi have all confirmed closures for the day of the funeral, and Sainsbury’s has said that its major shops will close but convenience stores and petrol stations will be open in the evening. Asda will also open its shops at 5pm. Royal Mail has also confirmed that deliveries will be suspended on the day.
Royal Mail CEO, Simon Thompson said: “We are proud that over the coming days Royal Mail will play an important role delivering messages of condolence from all around the world to the Royal family.
