Tesco is hiring thousands of staff this Christmas in a massive recruitment drive to get through the festive period. The popular supermarket is looking to fill around 30,000 temporary roles across the UK during the festive season across a range of shifts.
The roles are perfect for anyone looking for some extra cash, or considering coming back into the workforce, Tesco has said. The jobs will mainly involve working in Tesco’s Superstores and Extra stores for either early morning, day or evening shifts.
Once the seasonal period comes to an end, there is also the chance to then apply for a permanent position with Tesco, having built up more experience over the challenging Christmas period.

One person who did that last year is Kenzy Talbot, 28, who joined Tesco last November as a festive colleague and worked in the fresh food sales area.
Kenzy said: “I am a working mum with a young child, as you can imagine trying to fit work around school times in the past was very difficult. Tesco has been amazing and with their flexibility this has meant that I have been able to fit my working hours around my family commitments.
“I was delighted to become a permanent member of the team in January 2023. I have progressed and learnt other areas of the store, currently working most of my hours on groceries along with picking up extra shifts on other areas such as checkouts and fresh areas.”
Below are some of the ‘Festive Colleague’ roles with Tesco on offer in London.
Festive Colleague – Days – Kennington Vauxhall
In this role, you’ll be covering a range of tasks, from serving customers and stocking shelves to picking orders for home delivery. The role needs someone who is great with people and excels in customer service, takes the initiative and works well within a team.
Pay – £11.75 per hour. Apply by November 5.

Festive Colleague – Nights – Southwark
This role requires people who are happy to work later hours, but also offers increased pay so can be worth it for those looking for some extra cash. The requirements are similar to those on day shifts – working with customers and your team, filling orders for delivery, and restocking shelves.
You must be over 18 to apply for this role.
Pay – £11.75 per hour plus £2.30 premium per hour worked. Apply by November 5.

Festive Colleague – Twilights – Brixton
This role in Brixton offers flexible shifts, with hours to be discussed with your manager. Tesco are looking for warm, friendly and welcoming people to apply for this role, and says no experience is necessary before you start.
Your role will include serving customers, stocking shelves and providing support to your colleagues.
You must be over 18 to apply for this role.
Pay – £11.75 per hour plus £2.30 per hour worked between midnight and 6am. Apply by November 5.
