Tesco is teaming up with Royal Mail to make life simpler for busy shoppers by trialling round-the-clock parcel lockers across selected stores in the UK.

The new six-month pilot introduces 24/7 self-service lockers equipped with label-printing and QR code scanning options – a major win for customers who don’t have access to printers or prefer to manage returns and deliveries at their convenience.

Running alongside existing InPost lockers, the trial is part of a wider effort to expand Royal Mail’s parcel network and make “click, collect and return” shopping as seamless as possible.

“We’re really excited to bring Royal Mail lockers to Tesco stores,” said Jack Clarkson, Managing Director for Out-of-Home & Commercial Excellence at Royal Mail. “This partnership is another example of how we’re making it easier than ever for customers to collect, send and return parcels with us.”

Royal Mail already operates more than 2,600 parcel lockers nationwide, but this new partnership aims to build on that figure as part of its long-term vision to triple parcel points to 45,000 by 2030.

The collaboration marks another step in Royal Mail’s push to modernise delivery and return options and meet evolving customer habits spurred by online shopping.

Tesco, for its part, sees the trial as an extension of its goal to make stores even more accessible and efficient. A spokesperson for the supermarket said:

“We’re pleased to introduce Royal Mail lockers across a small number of stores. Working with Royal Mail, in addition to our existing locker partner InPost, will give even more customers a convenient way to collect and drop off parcels as part of their shopping trip.”

Where the trial is happening

The scheme is currently being tested at nine stores across the UK:

  • Ashby-de-la-Zouch
  • Barrow
  • Burnham-on-Sea
  • Bury
  • Cullompton
  • Horwich
  • March
  • Preston
  • Salisbury

If successful, the initiative could roll out to more locations later this year, offering shoppers a quick, all-in-one way to combine errands – turning their Tesco run into a true one-stop shop.
