‘Speechless’ Royal Variety viewers slam Sir Rod Stewart’s ‘awful’ performance.
Fans have slammed Sir Rod Stewart after he performed his new song at the Royal Variety Performance in front of Prince William and Kate Middleton at the Royal Albert Hall.
At this year’s Royal Variety Performance, Sir Rod Stewart sang “awful” in front of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The 76-year-old’s performance of One More Time on Sunday evening was panned by ITV viewers.
Prince William and his wife Kate sat in the royal box during the event, which was hosted by comedian Alan Carr.
After Rod took the stage, viewers immediately took to social media.
“That was AWFUL sir! (hashtag)RoyalVarietyPerformance,” one wrote.
“Anyone else just had third-party embarrassment watching Rod Stewart? Please call it a day Rod, please,” another wrote.
“RoyalVarietyPerformance,” as the hashtag suggests.
“Rod Stewart….,” said a fourth.
That performance (hashtag)RoyalVarietyPerformance has left me speechless.”
Throughout his career, Rod has had ten number one albums and 31 top ten singles in the United Kingdom.
This isn’t the first time the famous singer has faced backlash for an “awful” performance on social media.
Rod’s performance on The Graham Norton Show last month was dubbed “the worst thing I have seen in quite some time” by viewers.
“It was bad enough before that key change,” one user wrote.
Some fans, on the other hand, lauded the actor for his performance on the Royal Variety Performance.
“Love a little Rod,” one wrote.
Fantastic performance, and I adore the leopard print outfit.
“(hashtag)RoyalVarietyPerformance here’s a bold idea,” someone else said.
Instead of critiquing everything, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it.
Some of us are having a good time.”
The 109th performance took place at the Royal Albert Hall this year, making it the world’s longest-running entertainment show.
Cirque du Soleil, Years and Years, Keala Settle, James Blunt, Anne-Marie, and multi-award-winning singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran all performed at the event.
During the star-studded show, host Alan Carr made an awkward joke about “hitting on Kate Middleton” at the royals.
After his mischievous joke, the comedian divided ITV viewers.
