The best and worst GP surgeries in Leeds according to CQC ratings

Bagging an appointment to see a doctor can be something of a battle these days.

It often involves having to phone your local surgery at 8am on the dot and patiently wait in a phone queue until you’re finally put through to a receptionist.

Invariably this effort can be in vain as you may be told all appointment slots have been filled and to try again the following day.

Or in some cases you might be offered a telephone appointment rather than an in-person one, which isn’t always what you want.

In an effort to improve this, the government has said it will give more digital tools to surgeries to manage appointments and provide funding to pharmacists so they can “do more”, thereby freeing up GP slots.

The plan includes a £240 million investment into digital phone systems, which officials claim will stop the “8am scramble” for an appointment.

But while these improvements are in the works, your experience of trying to see a GP will likely vary between good or bad depending on where you live.

In Leeds, more than 200 GP surgeries have been rated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) based on several factors, including how safe and effective the practice is, the level of care and responsiveness, and if it is well-led.

Surgeries are awarded ratings of either ‘Outstanding’, ‘Good’, ‘Requires improvement’, or ‘Inadequate’.

The latest CQC ratings show that over 80% of GP surgeries in Leeds were rated ‘Good’ or above, with only a few being given lower ratings.

Listed are the best rated GP surgeries in Leeds that were graded as ‘Outstanding’, followed by the worst which was graded as ‘Requires improvement’.
