It’s that time of year again, and Christmas is rapidly approaching.
That also means the period when businesses are looking to fill temporary roles over the busy festive season is here once more.
And that’s good news for many of us as, let’s face it, no matter how much we love Christmas, the big day can end up being ridiculously expensive.
But there are an abundance of temporary festive jobs in and around Cardiff.
Royal Mail
Salary: £11.40 per hour for a day shift and £13.70 per hour for nights
Royal Mail is on the look out for seasonal mail sorters at its mail centre on Penarth Road and in the sorting centre in Llanishen.
Typical shifts available are:
- Late shifts: Shift covering various days across Monday to Sunday, generally part time shifts, with hours ranging from 2pm to 10pm
- Nights: Shifts covering various days across Monday to Sunday, full time, between 10.30pm and 6.30pm

Salary: Up to £8.91 per hour
WH Smith is looking for seasonal temps to work as sales assistants in their stores over the Christmas period.
The company’s advert states it is offering flexible hours, mostly on weekends but with more shifts available in the final run-up to Christmas day.
Successful applications would be paid weekly, with the chance of a permanent opportunity in the future.

Salary: £8.91 per hour
Ann Summers is on the look out for Christmas workers, promising to offer “good vibes only” to successful applicants.
The company is offering two month contracts, with 12 hours of work per week.

Salary: £9 per hour
Iceland is looking for a retail assistant to help cover the festive period in Cardiff.
The role is on a temporary part-time contract, with a “variety” of shift patterns.

Christmas at Bute Park
Salary: £10 – £11.50 per hour
If you’re looking for the ultimate festive role for the Christmas period, Christmas at Bute Park is looking for event staff to serve drinks and work on other event activities.
The job advert says that staff will be working at “chalet style Christmas bars”, serving hot drinks and alcohol, and that full barista training will be given.
Shifts are between 3:30pm and 8:30pm and no previous experience is required.
Contracts last for one month.

Salary: £9 per hour
Retailer Oliver Bonas is searching for seasonal team members to join until January 9, 2022.
Successful applicants will work a minimum of eight hours a week, including weekends, and will need to have “flexible availability.”

Pugh’s Garden Village
Salary:Up to £8.91 per hour
Another festive role for the Christmas period, Pugh’s Garden Village is looking for temporary workers for its Christmas tree forest.
As a Christmas tree assistant, you could be responsible for preparing Christmas trees for sale, keeping the forest tidy and greeting customers.
The role requires you to be comfortable working outdoors and physically fit, and will involve working on weekends and some evenings.

Greetings card giant Clinton’s is looking for seasonal team members to join over Christmas, helping out during the company’s busiest period.
The job advert asks for candidates who have previous retail experience and are available to work hours according to the trading patterns of the store.

The job advert asks for candidates who love digital entertainment and technology, with the role offering seven hours of work per week.
