The e-scooter riding Nottinghamshire man who stabbed five total strangers

Police have released images of an e-scooter riding man from Nottingham who stabbed five total strangers in the street. Junior Dietlin, a paranoid schizophrenic, crept up behind each of his victims – four in Mansfield and one in Mapperley – stabbed them once in the upper arm and then ran away.

He was given an indefinite hospital order when appearing for sentencing at Leicester Crown Court on Friday, April 12. The court heard about the now 20-year-old’s offences which took place between February 8 and 12 last year. He was found guilty of five counts of malicious wounding and four counts of possessing a bladed article in a public place.

Medical evidence given said the then-teenager believed people were watching and recording him and that his mother was trying to poison his food leading to “a significant amount of weight loss”. Junior Dietlin attacked four of his victims in and around Mansfield town centre on the evenings of February 11 and 12.

Each of the victims reported being stabbed in the arm in unprovoked attacks by a man riding a lime green coloured electric scooter. Another victim was assaulted in a similar attack in Blyth Street, Mapperley, on the evening of February 8.

Nottinghamshire Police arrested Dietlin, of Ransom Drive, Nottingham on February 13. After being challenged by an officer in Devon Drive, he tried to get away on his scooter.

However, he was chased down by a police dog which latched onto his arm and dragged him to the ground. Detective Constable Matthew Fagan said: “The victims in this case were simply going about their daily business when they were subjected to entirely unprovoked acts of violence by Dietlin, who, after stabbing them in the arm, calmly walked or scooted away from the scene.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the actions of the police dog and his handler who acted so quickly to bring this man down. It really is a great example of what a well-trained police dog and handler can achieve in the service of the public.”
