  • Pair expected to create feast for volunteers working over the Christmas period
  • It comes after Mail revealed Kate held private talks with BBC director-general
  • TV special reportedly has working title The Mary Berry Royal Christmas Show

Kate Middleton is to team up with former Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry for a one-off Christmas TV special, it has been reported.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 37, will be guest of honour on the 84-year-old television presenter’s BBC1 Christmas show later this year.

The pair, who became friends through their charity work, are expected to create a feast for volunteers working over the Christmas and New Year period.

It comes after the Daily Mail revealed Kate held private talks with BBC director-general Tony Hall at Broadcasting House in London last week.

A source told The Mirror: ‘What better way to spread some Christmas cheer than to team up cookery royalty Mary Berry with real royalty in the form of Kate?

‘Between them they will bring seasonal goodwill to their guests and to the millions of viewers watching. Expect a properly uplifting Christmas treat.’

The event may even take place at a royal location, it has been claimed, with Mary overseeing the festive spread and Kate helping out with guests.

Last week, Kensington Palace said the Duchess met Lord Hall in her capacity as patron of the Royal Foundation, so any project would be for charity.

Mary Berry and Kate have been friends for some time now, and were recently seen together at the formal opening of the Duchess of Cambridge’s garden at RHS Wisley in Surrey – a playground paradise inspired by her successful Chelsea Flower Show garden.

The duo looked in high spirits as they were photographed hitching a ride on a tractor trailer, alongside several other children, to a fete-style festival that marked the garden’s launch in September.

Kate’s co-created gardens were previously exhibited at the Chelsea Flower Show and the Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, with the aim of highlighting how time outdoors can enrich a child’s early development.

The final Back to Nature space included elements like the hollow log from Chelsea and the wildflower meadow and rolling hill showcased at Hampton Court.

New features included two connected treehouses and slides, which encourage families and friends to have fun together in a natural environment.

The one-off TV special, which reportedly has the working title The Mary Berry Royal Christmas Show, has already started filming.

The BBC would not comment on the news, only saying: ‘All will be revealed in due course.’
