The major job cuts since the start of the pandemic

London City Airport became the latest employer to announce major job losses since the start of the pandemic as it revealed plans that could see more than a third of the roles at the airport cut.

The airport has announced it is cutting up to 239 jobs as part of “crucial restructuring plans”.

The proposals mean 35% of roles could be lost across the airport.

A consultation has begun with staff on ways of reducing costs, including through voluntary redundancy.

The airport was closed for nearly three months from March 25 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Scheduled flights are currently operating to 17 destinations but passenger numbers are well below normal levels.

The losses, announced on Monday, add to the more than 180,000 tracked by the PA news agency since the start of lockdown in March.

Here is a list of some of the major British employers that have announced major job cuts since the start of the lockdown.
