The Post Box Sports Bar to open new venue in Newbury

The Post Box Sports Bar, in the former Post Office in London Street, has announced plans to open a second site at the former Walkabout premises in Newbury town centre this spring.

Operations director Wayne Lee-Buckland, alongside business partners Hayden Gowan and Paul Deakin, revealed the news on social media, describing the move as the “perfect fit” for their growing brand.

In a post shared on Facebook, the team said: “Did you hear the rumours? Yes, they are true and finally confirmed. After an incredible 16 months in Basingstoke, we’re buzzing to confirm The Post Box Sports Bar is coming to Newbury.”

The new site sits next to the Royal Mail depot – a location the owners said made the decision “meant to be” given the bar’s postal theme.

The Post Box opened in Basingstoke in late 2024 and quickly built a reputation for its lively atmosphere, big-screen sports coverage, and range of food and drinks. The Newbury bar promises to offer the same combination of “top-tier live sport, interactive games and entertainment”.

Regulars at the Basingstoke venue will also benefit from the expansion, as the owners confirmed existing memberships will now be valid across both sites – “one membership, two homes”.

A new Facebook page, The Post Box Sports Bar – Newbury, has been set up to share behind-the-scenes updates as the team prepares for a spring 2026 launch.

Lee-Buckland thanked customers in Basingstoke for their continued support, adding: “We genuinely couldn’t have done this without you all. Newbury… we’ll see you at the bar very soon.”

The bar, which was the first of its kind in Basingstoke’s town centre, featuring a variety of games, including shuffleboard, pool and darts, plus an interactive sports simulator with more than 30 sports experiences, celebrated its one-year anniversary on November 1 last year.

Mr Lee-Buckland previously spoke to the Gazette and reflected on what he described as an “amazing” first 12 months in business.

He said: “We couldn’t have asked for a better start, it’s been better than I thought.

“It’s been from strength to strength, and the support from Basingstoke has been absolutely amazing. We just want to keep it going now.

“I’m proud, very proud. When we opened up, we wanted to create a venue for Basingstoke people and to try and get everyone out again. Hopefully, we can carry on with that and keep pushing.”
