A royal insider has dismissed claims the Queen plans to hand over power to Prince Charles in two years, saying it ‘sounds more like a plot line from The Crown’.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, the unnamed source insisted the Queen, 93, has no intention of stepping down when she turns 95, despite reports to the contrary.
Recent speculation suggested the Queen might use the milestone to make her son Prince Regent, effectively handing over day-to-day control of the monarchy without abdicating.

However the suggestion was brushed aside by the ‘well-placed’ royal source, who told Katie Nicholl ‘a regency is not going to happen’.
‘It sounds more like a plot line from The Crown rather than the truth,’ the source added.
Another insider said that despite the recent controversy surrounding Prince Andrew’s disastrous BBC interview and subsequent relinquishing of royal duties, the monarchy is as strong and as stable as ever.

The source said: There seems to be an inference that because of what has happened with Prince Andrew, a huge amount of change is about to happen. It’s not.
‘The Royal Family is firmly being driven by the Queen and that will continue to be the case.’
The Queen has been gradually reducing the number of public engagements she attends from 332 in 2016 to a still impressive 283 in 2018. Charles, meanwhile, undertook 507.

The Duke of Edinburgh stepped down from official duties at the age of 95, a milestone the Queen will reach in April 2021.
Philip, 98, spends most of his time at Wood Farm, a small residence on the Windsor Castle estate.
Tonight the Queen will join senior members of the royal family including Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duchess of Cambridge to welcome NATO leaders, including Donald Trump, at Buckingham Palace.
