The Queen eats bananas in an unusual way and peels it with a knife and fork

Her majesty does not peel a banana the usual way and instead she uses a knife and fork

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be the Queen? We’re sure most people have, but you might not think that something as simple as peeling a banana would be done differently.

Eating a banana is never an elegant task, but not for Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty has an unusual technique that helps her remain graceful at all times.

According to former Royal chef, Darren McGrady, the Queen would remove the top and bottom of the banana with a knife and form, then slice away the banana peel length-ways. Mr McGrady, who once worked in the Royal kitchen, said Her Majesty would then chop the banana into small bite-size pieces, before eating them with a fork.

The Mirror reports that being strict about the way she eats a banana is not the only quirk the Queen has. She will not eat, or serve, garlic at any occasion.

This is because the Royal Family have to meet and greet many people and they do not want the smell of garlic on their breath. Shellfish is also a no-go area as it’s one of the foods most likely to cause food poisoning.

Mr McGrady told The Huffington Post that he “used to travel on the train from London to Windsor Castle with the biscuit cake in a tin on my knee. It was half-eaten”. Mr McGrady revealed that some of the items on Her Majesty’s menu date back to Queen Victoria with the classic chocolate cake made in the royal kitchen.

He said: “The Chocolate Biscuit Cake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again every day until it’s all gone. She’ll take a small slice every day until eventually there is only one tiny piece, but you have to send that up, she wants to finish the whole of that cake.”
