These are uncertain times for the Royal Mail. By law, the postal service is required to deliver letters six days a week throughout the United Kingdom, and deliver parcels five days a week. In recent months the public have seldom been able to depend on its ability to fulfil its most basic responsibilities. As recalcitrant trade unions resist long overdue modernisation of a business that has been too slow to adapt to the digital age, financial losses pose an existential threat to its viability.
