The weirdest places people have tried to hide drugs in Cambridgeshire

Every day officers around our county work tirelessly to tackle the drug dealing problem in Cambridgeshire.

However thankfully for us we are lucky to have such an observant and dedicated police force when it comes to the growing issue that is drug dealing and smuggling.

In fact the officers’ very high track record for catching criminals has meant some people are attempting to get a little more creative about how they hide their drugs.

From inside children’s chocolates to birthdays gifts from mothers, here are the weirdest places people have tried to smuggle drugs in Cambridgeshire.

Alongside a bag of drugs and cake was card saying ‘Enjoy! Love Mum’

Back in August of this year (2019), postmen and women at the Peterborough Royal Mail depot spotted a very usual package coming through their section.

Inside the odd parcel was a slightly squashed chocolate cake with sweets on top along with a card that contained a large bag of cannabis.

Incredibly the card read “Enjoy!!! Love Mum XX”.

The package was then handed over to police, who believe the cake may also have contained cannabis.

At the time of the incident a spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said: “We had a call from the Royal Mail depot on Tuesday, a PCSO went to collect the items this morning [August 23].

“We suspect there may be cannabis in the cake and it will be checked by a drug expert.”

Suspecting a drug deal was about to take place, the officer called for assistance before approaching Abolarin, who ran away.

The 22-year-old of South Street, Enfield, hid a Tic Tac box, with about 20 wraps inside, under the wheel arch of a car before stopping in John Street where he was detained.

Abolarin claimed the drugs were for his personal use but officers found further wraps and cash where he had been staying with his girlfriend in Newmarket Road.
