It may still feel like it’s a while away but Christmas will roll around sooner than you think, with only a matter of weeks to go.
While the festivities are sure to be a little different this year thanks to the various lockdown restrictions in place, the tradition of gift giving is sure to remain.
If you’re keen to earn a few extra pennies to help fund your festive spending, several companies are already advertising for temporary Christmas staff.
From supermarkets to sorting through the Christmas post, here are some of the temporary seasonal jobs already up for grabs.
Tesco
Tesco is recruiting more than 11,000 temporary staff across the UK to help out at the busiest time of the year.
The roles are available in Tesco Superstores and Extra stores around the country and involve picking out products ready for online deliveries and store replenishment, helping to support existing store colleagues.
A variety of flexible contracts are available and Tesco encourages successful applicants to apply for any permanent roles once the season period comes to an end.
Morrisons
Morrisons is recruiting for Christmas temps up and down the UK, with roles including:
- Store Customer Assistants
- Store Pickers and Packers
- Manufacturing Operatives
- Distribution Warehouse Operatives
Marks & Spencer
Marks & Spencer recruit temporary Customer Assistants from September through to the New Year, to help out when stores are busier than usual.
As well as seasonal roles, the supermarket also has various temporary jobs available throughout the year.
Royal Mail
The Royal Mail is calling for thousands of temporary mail sorters across the UK to join its ranks over the Christmas period to ensure letters and parcels arrive in time for the big day.
The job involves unloading mail and parcels from vans, and sorting them in the warehouse to ensure they arrive at their destination safely. No previous experience is needed for the role, but you must be comfortable working in shifts.
When you apply, you will be able to select the shift patterns that best suit you, with earlies, lates, nights and weekend shifts available at most centres.
Boots
Boots calls for full-time, part-time and weekend Christmas Customer Advisors in the run up to Christmas every year, to help out in stores across the country.

Matalan
Various Customer Sales Assistants are wanted at Matalan stores around the UK, with the company looking for people who can work flexibly, including at weekends and in the evenings and during the busy Christmas period.
The role involves delivering an excellent customer experience and the ability to work well as part of a team.

John Lewis
Christmas roles at John Lewis for 2020 started to be advertised from the end of August and early September, with roles ranging from stock replenishment, to customer support and assistants in store.
