This is why there are NG80 and NG90 postcodes in Nottingham

Among the hundreds of postcodes used throughout Nottingham there are several addresses which could cause some confusion.

For in the centre of the city there is a code which starts NG80 and, just outside the city boundary, another anomaly which begins with NG90.

The first letters of a postcode indicate the area where a particular address is and the digits after it represent the district within that particular area.

That is why NG80 and 90 stand out in a postal area that only has 32 districts. But Royal Mail has now solved the mystery of the unique codes and has confirmed they are non-geographic and belong to two of the county’s biggest companies – information services group Experian (NG80) and Boots (NG90).

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “The postcodes have been allocated against these specific large customers to assist with the speedy routing and sortation of the large volumes of mail associated with their business.

“They are codes that are clearly and deliberately different to the other businesses or residences in the Nottingham area.”

A spokesman for Experian confirmed the system makes delivering mail and other items easier and in some cases translates to their particular sites. For example, NG80 1RH is the postcode for Experian’s Riverleen House in Electric Avenue.

Its UK headquarters at the NG2 Business Park, meanwhile, is NG80 1ZZ.

The postcode for Boots’ headquarters in Beeston, meanwhile is NG90 1BS.

Boots’ head office in Beeston has the postcode NG90

A spokesman for the company, Nottingham’s biggest employer, said: “The Boots site is 279 acres, with many different buildings across the campus.

“To make it easier for Royal Mail, we have one postcode for the whole site, so mail is delivered centrally and our internal postal team then deliver it to the specific buildings and hubs.”
