Thousands in South Louisiana sign up for Gustav food stamps (KTBS Shreveport)

Thousands of applicants for emergency food stamps are overwhelming the registration facilities set up in Baton Rouge to administer the post-Hurricane Gustav program. Up to 5,000 people showed up at a state Department of Social Services facility. Similar crowds were reported in New Orleans and Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes.
