Three more Covid deaths recorded in Oxfordshire as new cases rise

THREE more people have died in Oxfordshire after testing positive for Covid-19 as more than 18 million people have received their first dose of a vaccine.

One death was recorded in West Oxfordshire and two in Vale of White Horse, which takes the total number of people who have died from the virus in the county to 706.

According to the Government’s website, as of 4pm on Wednesday, there were 86 new cases in the county – a rise of 16 from Tuesday’s numbers.

These were the numbers for the past 24 hours by local authority:

l Oxford – 24

l South Oxfordshire – 14

l West Oxfordshire – 4

l Vale of White Horse – 17

l Cherwell – 27

The total number of coronavirus cases since the pandemic started are:

l Oxford – 8,961

l Oxfordshire – 31,874

Separate data from NHS England revealed that one new coronavirus death had been recorded at the Oxford Trust in the latest 24-hour period.

Daily death counts are revised every day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means that some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

That was an increase of one compared to Monday, when there were 472.

It means there have been 15 deaths in the past week, down from 32 the previous week.

Public Health England confirmed that the UK has recorded a further 442 Covid-related deaths and 9,938 new cases.
