A Scots dog owner has been left traumatised after her tiny dog had to get its chest reconstructed after an alleged attack by a danger dog.
Primary teacher Francesca Louise was walking her eight-year-old Maltese Terrier Millie on Cartside Quadrant, Glasgow, around 1.30pm on Sunday January 23.
During the walk little Millie sustained life-threatening injuries after a larger dog allegedly attacked her.
A man has since been charged in connection with the incident.
Millie was rushed to The Roundhouse Veterinary Hospital in Glasgow and immediately taken for surgery.
The pup’s injuries were so severe she had to have her chest reconstructed and owner Francesca feared she would not survive.
Francesca told the Record: “She had very extensive wounds and we didn’t know what the outcome would be.
“We were told she needed full chest reconstructive surgery but she wasn’t strong enough to receive the operation. Every day she was sedated and had a huge open wound.
“On the Tuesday we got a call as they didn’t think Millie was going to survive but she just kept fighting through.
“She was transferred to another hospital – Vets Now at Charing Cross – so she could see soft tissue specialists.
“On Tuesday of this week they decided to have a go at chest reconstruction. They aren’t sure when they will be able to do the second part.”
Millie has been discharged from full-time care and spends most days at the vet hospital but nights with her loving family.
She will need to have further surgery when she is strong enough to repair extensive damage to her chest.
The alleged incident has left Francesca needing to speak to a counsellor as she says she now suffers flashbacks.
Millie is also said to have turned into a nervous dog since the alleged incident.
Francesca has since urged other dog owners to ‘take no risks’ while walking their beloved pets.
She added: “Millie has got such a long road to recovery – she is only at the start just now.
“Hopefully this will raise more awareness for other people.”
A 46-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident and is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal.
