Top children’s author heads into SY

Acclaimed children’s author and illustrator Ross Collins is a being welcomed to An Lanntair arts centre for a special family event as part of Faclan: The Hebridean Book Festival.

Taking place on Tuesday 28 October from 4pm to 5pmin An Lanntair’s auditorium, Faclan Òga: Family Draw-Along with Ross Collins promises an hour of creativity, and Halloween-themed fun.

This event marks the launch of Ross’s brand-new picture book, How to Scare a Mouse and Bear — the latest instalment in the much-loved Mouse and Bear series. Families are invited to join Ross as he shares how he creates his books and leads an interactive draw-along suitable for children aged five to eight and their families.

A graduate of Glasgow School of Art and winner of the Macmillan Prize for his first picture book, Ross has gone on to write and illustrate over 150 titles enjoyed by children around the world.

His bestselling book There’s a Bear on My Chair has become an international favourite and was recently adapted for the stage, while The Elephantom was transformed into a critically acclaimed play by the National Theatre.

Ross’s work has been recognised with numerous awards including the UKLA Award, the CILIP Amnesty Honour, The Royal Mail Book Award and multiple Scottish Children’s Book Awards. He has also worked with animation studios such as Laika and Disney, and continues to develop character-led content across a range of creative industries.

“Many families will be familiar with his diverse range of books and recognisable illustration style. The draw-along event promises to be full of Ross’ trademark warmth, humour and creativity.”

Faclan Òga: Family Draw-Along with Ross Collins offers a unique opportunity for children to engage directly with a leading figure in children’s literature, learn about the creative process behind picture books, and take part in a fun, hands-on drawing session.
