Top four continue to set pace in Boston Indoor Bowls League

The top four all performed well in the Boston Indoor Bowls League’s Orchard Health Group Division One.

And, apart from Carlton Road, they all secured the six points they needed.

The Road dropped a point in a closely-contested game against IBC as Dennis Ellis, Jeff Powell and Pete Stringfellow shared the spoils with the Road’s Pete Clark, Chris Gill and Martin Tomlin (16-16).

Basement side Breakaways put in a great performance against A40 and the latter had to be happy with two points.

The Breakaways trio of Limb, Stevens and Dilley were successful 24-9 for four much-needed points.

Parthians were overcome by Punchbowlers on both rinks. For the Bowlers, Steven Skelton was successful 24-17 and Dave Gill picked up a crucial count of five on end 13, which eased him away to a win of 23-11.

In the T&B Containers Division Two, top-of-the-league Royal Mail maintained first place even though they were on a bye week.

Poachers could have gone top but they were held up by Autos, who saw Margaret Gardner, Tom Freeston and Norman Wright beat Grace Bristow, Steve Robinson and Bob Tingey 18-13 for two points.

A mid-table clash of Central versus Dynamics saw the points going to the former.

Lee Mulholland, Marion Epton and Fred Epton scored 10 shots without reply to triumph 21-12 and the Thorold-Thorold-Hunn combination hung on to win 18-17.

Nomads proved to strong for Patriarchs with rink wins of 18-17 and 26-11 for Ken Burr and Derek Smith.

The prospect of a close game between Strollers and Cosmos didn’t happen as Jean Thompson skipped her rink to a 14-10 win against Tony Beck, Rod Dunn and Trish Dunn while Bob Thompson won 21-10 against Mick Hippisley.

The Burtons gave the Golfers a hard game but at the end it was the Golfers who triumphed as Jerry Gill, Ron Hulley and David Marshall tied 17-17 with Dave Bailey and Barrie Williamson, Mick Nundy and Graham Scarboro beat Chris Hill 19-15.

The Pilgrims’ Cammacks Division Three winning ways go on but, matched against the Vectors, skip Ted Bourne saw an 8-3 advantage end up as a 19-19 draw with Eddy Bell, Terry Darbyshire and Kevin Rockall.

Neil Harrison picked up the rest of the points for the leaders.

Amateurs secured five of the six points against Saxons.

Dave Coulson, Brian Martin and Mick Greet won 18-14 and Steve Boycott, Tony Nixon and Ron Spence tied 15-15 with John Hodgson.

Shipmates versus the Fairways saw the Shipmates winning 32-23 overall for all six points.

Hotspurs and U3 shared the rink points. For Hotspurs, Rob Druce, Brian Fairweather and Simon Sperring won 18-8, but this score was eclipsed by U3’s Peter Copeland, Anita Rymer and Michael Rymer, who won 27-6.

Phantoms overcame a good Bias side with wins of 19-12 for Dave Wilson, John Brennan and Mick Ross, and a 19-9 for Clive Newall, Lloyd Walker ad Richard Keeling.
