These stunning photographs taken by active Royal Navy personnel have given a glimpse into the work of members of the armed forces.

From mud-covered training sessions for the U20s Royal Navy women’s football team in Lympstone, Devon, to exercises in an abandoned Soviet military camp in Skrunda, Latvia, there is no average day for our service men and women.

The snaps, taken over the past year, were all winners in the annual Royal Navy photographic competition, called the Peregrine Trophy Awards.

In one emotional shot, a crewmember from the HMS Sutherland is seen hugging a family member after a seven-month deployment to the other side of the world.

Another shows HMS Albion’s Commanding Officer Captain Tim Neild and Executive Warrant Officer WO1 Mark Thrift as they are welcomed to Korea and given floral necklaces.
