Traffic at standstill on A2 after fatal crash near Cobham

Traffic has been brought to a standstill on the A2 following a fatal crash.

Emergency services were called following a crash involving a BMW and a Royal Mail lorry at around 9.50am, on the westbound carriageway near Cobham services.

Police have since confirmed that a driver died at the scene.

The eastbound carriageway was subsequently reopened at 12.24pm, but the westbound carriageway remains closed as an investigation into the circumstances of the crash continues.

Inquiries into the incident are being carried out by officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, who would like to hear from witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage that may assist their enquiries.

Congestion is stretching back nearly ten miles to the M2 westbound between junctions two and three, near Rochester Airport.

A diversion has been put in place with drivers advised to follow the solid square symbol, via the A289 north, the A226 west and A227 south.
