The refurbishment forms part of the council’s broader vision for Partington Sports Village.
A tender process has now been launched by the council to appoint a contractor for the full refurbishment, with applications open until September 15.
The centre, which will be rebranded as Move Partington, is currently closed to allow the works to take place.
Councillor Eve Parker said: “These are exciting times for Partington and these improvements will be a massive boost to everyone in the area.
“We are helping to give residents access to sport and leisure, in line with our council priorities.”
Refurbishments follow several recent improvements in Partington funded through the Government’s Levelling Up programme.
Upgrades have included the Cross Lane changing rooms, which now support local football teams, including women’s and girls’ squads, as well as the reopening of a boxing club.
A BMX pump track is also under construction, and two new 3G pitches have been introduced.
These pitches support free, open-access sessions for young people, walking football for older adults, and disability sessions for visually impaired players.

They also serve as the home ground for Cerebral Palsy United, the Manchester United Foundation, and Partington and Carrington FC.
Elsewhere in the borough, the £20 million Move Altrincham redevelopment is nearing completion, and plans are in place to use waste heat from a nearby data centre to warm the Move Urmston leisure centre.
Trafford Council has identified culture, sport, and heritage as key corporate priorities.
