Tributes paid to Royal Mail worker Derek ‘Del’ Pitman after Worcester Woods death

TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who died after being found in water at Worcester Woods Country Park.

People have shared their condolences after police named Derek Pitman, from Blackpole as the man who had been discovered in a critical condition in a woodland pool.

Mr Pitman, affectionately known as Del, was taken to hospital after being discovered in the water by walkers.

He had spent more than three decades working for Royal Mail at the mail centre in Wainwright Road, Warndon.

Friends and former colleagues shared tributes to the 71-year-old who died in hospital on Wednesday.

Nicholas Brian said: “Absolutely gutted Del. We had some great times. Rest easy DP.”

Kelly Trevis wrote: “My deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

Beth Farmer said: “Very sad poor man thoughts are with this gentleman’s family and friends.”

Gemma Jeynes wrote: “RIP Another postie taken too soon xx”

Police maintain that his death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Natasha Coleshill-Jones said: “Thought with all family and friends at this sad time.”

Dee Bruce said: “How very sad, condolences to the family.”

Worcester Woods was cordoned off on Wednesday morning as police investigated the death.

Access to the woods was reopened at around 1.30pm.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham to the scene.

A spokesperson said: “On arrival, we discovered one male patient who was in a critical condition.

“Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support which continued en route to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

“However, shortly after arrival at hospital it sadly became apparent nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased.”
