Claire Bailey, a doctor at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, said missed post gad has meant she has missed urgent appointments

Households in a part of Cornwall have said their level of service from Royal Mail has massively declined in recent months.

One local doctor said problems in the Truro area meant she received no post for up to five days at a time.

Claire Bailey, a doctor at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, said it had meant she missed urgent appointments and other time-critical communications.

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said that high level of absence and vacancies at the local delivery office had impacted deliveries in the city.

‘Minimise impact on customers’

Dr Bailey said: “I have approached my local MP as I don’t think this will be resolved unless we all admit that this is a problem.

“I have spoken to many neighbours on my street who have also noticed they haven’t had any mail, so it’s not just me but everyone on my street and this particular round.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “A high level of sick absence and vacancies at the local delivery office has unfortunately had an impact on deliveries in Truro.

“Plans are in place to minimise the impact on customers, with deliveries made at least every other day.

“We are actively recruiting and anticipate the situation will improve shortly.”
