TUI doubles hotels in affordable holiday region targeting UK tourists

TUI is set to double its presence in a popular holiday region, with plans to open more hotels across Asia. The travel giant already boasts numerous resorts in Thailand, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and has recently expanded into Vietnam, Malaysia and China for the first time.

TUI’s chief executive, Sebastian Ebel, described Asia as a “very attractive” destination for the brand. He said: “We offer holiday packages for guests from Europe in the Far East and attract travellers from Asia who spend their holiday in the region.

“Our customer base is broadening and becoming more globally distributed. This will also make us less dependent on Europe, where the economy has recently slowed down.”

This expansion includes a new luxury brand, The Mora, in Bali, Indonesia. Additional flights have been added to Thailand this winter and for 2025 due to a 35% increase in demand.

Vietnam, named the most affordable long-haul hotspot in this year’s Post Office Report, is also part of TUI’s expansion plan.

Peter Krueger, TUI holiday experiences chief executive, revealed plans to “double the number of hotels in the region” over the coming years. Currently, TUI operates around 18 hotels across Asia, with plans to open another 22 by 2027.

Holidaymakers looking for adventures outside Europe will be thrilled with the latest offerings from a major tour operator. In 2022, they introduced flights to Senegal for the first time in over ten years.

This tour operator stands out as the only one in the UK providing direct flights to the trending African destination, which is even tipped as a hot spot for 2025. They’ve also upped their game with new safari experiences, combining Kenyan beach relaxation with thrilling wildlife adventures.

Mr Ebel expressed his enthusiasm: “There is a lot of growth outside the region of Europe.”

He added, “I very much believe in Africa.”

Meanwhile, destinations such as Cape Verde and Zanzibar are becoming increasingly popular among British holidaymakers. Even North Africa is experiencing a surge in interest, with Egypt now being a more budget-friendly option than Spain for UK travellers.
