Two injured after driver suffers ‘medical episode’ and ploughs into tree

The driver, a man in his 70s and two others were taken to hospital

A car ploughed into a tree after the driver suffered a ‘medical episode’ behind the wheel.

Police and paramedics were called to Garretts Green Lane, Sheldon, just before 1pm on Friday (April 25), where they found three injured victims.

The driver, said to be in his 70s, a male passenger in his 60s and a woman all from the same car suffered injuries not said to be serious and were taken to Heartlands Hospital.

The road was briefly closed while the wreckage was made safe.

A spokeswoman from WMAS said: “We were called shortly before 1pm to a road traffic collision involving a car and a tree on Garretts Green Lane, Sheldon in Birmingham.

“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

“Upon arrival we found three patients, two men and a woman from the car.

“Firstly, a man who was the driver of the car who is believed to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel was assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious.

“He received treatment at the scene from ambulance staff and a man and a woman who were passengers in the car were assessed.

“They had sustained injuries not believed to be serious.

“All three patients were conveyed to Heartlands Hospital for further assessment.”

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: “We were called just before 1pm this afternoon (25 Apr) to Garretts Green Lane, Birmingham after a car hit a tree.

“The driver, a man in his 70s and a passenger, a man in his 60s suffered injuries not believed to be life changing or threatening.”
