UK coronavirus death toll rises by 67 with 14 across Birmingham and Midlands

A further 67 hospital patients have died from coronavirus across the UK, according to the latest figures.

Of those, 59 died in England, three in Wales, none in Scotland and five in Northern Ireland. This brings the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 30,971.

Meanwhile in the Midlands, including Birmingham, 14 people have died from coronavirus.

Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust revealed it had one death while there were three deaths at the University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation NHS Trust.

There were three deaths at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and there was one death at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust recorded one death while United Lincolnshire NHS Trust recorded one death.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust announced there was one death.

Derby and Burton NHS Trust announced that it recorded one death.

NHS has confirmed that patients were aged between 54 and 96 years old. All except four (aged 56 to 92) had known underlying health conditions and the date of death ranges from 4 to 17 October 2020.

Wales has also confirmed that there have been a further 950 cases of Covid-19 diagnosed, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 35,628.

This comes as the row between Greater Manchester and the Government rages on as to whether or not the region should be put into Tier 3 lockdown.

Mayor Andy Burnham blamed the Chancellor for the situation. He has called for a return to the generosity of the original furlough scheme that saw the Treasury pay 80% of workers wages, but Rishi Sunak has only offered a 66% subsidy for those whose firms forced to shut by Tier 3 measures.

Meanwhile Liverpool and Lancashire remain in Tier 3 lockdown – the highest lockdown level meaning that pubs and bars are forced to close due to the spread of coronavirus.
