A new winter of discontent is under way. Strike action on a scale not seen since the 1980s will affect millions as public sector workers demand pay rises to match spiralling inflation.
The government will today unveil its plans for new laws to limit the ability to strike, and has vowed to use the army to fill absent posts.
Until then, however, unions will work to maximise the pressure on employers.
The Royal College of Nursing has announced further strike dates across England, scheduled for January 18 and 19.
