UK strike dates: who is striking in January — and when? | News

A new winter of discontent is under way. Strike action on a scale not seen since the 1980s will affect millions as public sector workers demand pay rises to match spiralling inflation.

The government has vowed to respond with new laws to limit the ability to strike, and to use the army to fill absent posts.

Until then, however, unions will work to maximise the pressure on employers.

The Royal College of Nursing has announced further strike dates across England and Wales, scheduled for January 18 and 19.

This month, the union co-ordinated the biggest strike the NHS has seen in more than a century, involving 100,000 nurses in 65 NHS organisations. Up to 140,000 appointments, including 11,000 operations, may have been cancelled over the
