UK tourist hotspot with seagulls so aggressive Royal Mail deliveries delayed

The Royal Mail has sent out a warning message to residents in Liskeard, Cornwall, warning them that their mail will be delayed as postmen and women are being attacked by seagulls

Postal workers in a Cornish town are facing vicious attacks from aggressive seagulls, leading to delivery delays amid concerns over safety.

In Liskeard, the disruptive birds have sparked warnings of postal service disruption as they launch aerial assaults on the posties.

The situation has escalated to a point where Royal Mail is now proposing alternative solutions for residents, such as arranging deliveries to safer locations beyond the reach of the gulls.

A Liskeard local disclosed the contents of a recent letter from Royal Mail that highlighted the “difficulties.”

Penned by the Royal Mail’s USO (Universal Service Obligation) and Customer Experience department, the letter informs: “As you may be aware we are again experiencing some difficulties safely delivering to you/and your neighbours due to seagulls in the area swooping at delivery staff in order to protect their young.”

Expressing the intention behind the message, the letter goes on to say: “The purpose of this letter is firstly to advise you of the issues we are experiencing, but also to assure you that we will continue to attempt deliveries every day.”

Detailing the contingency plans for undelivered mail, it adds: “If on any day we are unable to deliver to you safely, your mail will be returned to the office below, where it will be held securely until we can attempt delivery again the following day.”

While acknowledging that these arrangements aren’t perfect, the letter conveys Royal Mail’s understanding that the alternatives “may not be ideal” for those affected.

The letter further elaborates on the “alternative arrangements” offered, including having mail kept at a specified local office for later collection or opting for an “alternative address” that’s safe from the gull menace.

The letter further stated: “Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may cause, but whilst Royal Mail is committed to providing a consistent daily delivery to addresses, we do place the highest priority on the safety of our employees.”

It was also mentioned that the situation would be “monitored on a daily basis”.

This predicament left some residents scratching their heads.

One quipped: “Royal Mail will soon be providing safety helmets.”

Another remarked: “These birds are so terrible for been so protective of there young. Something has got to be done about these birds to stop them attacking humans.2”.

Yet another local retorted: “What’s wrong with people? Just wear a bl°°dy hat!”.
