Union demands assurances from Royal Mail bidder

The postal workers union will meet representatives from Daniel Kretinsky’s EP Group next week to begin “early conversations” after the tycoon’s company won approval for its takeover bid for the owner of Royal Mail.

Dave Ward, general secretary of the Communications Workers Union, said the meeting was likely to be “the start of exploring our concerns, us asking them what their plans are and then trying to see whether we can find common ground”. He said he had received a commitment from EP Group that the union, which represents Royal Mail staff, would meet Kretinsky.

It comes after the board of International Distribution Services recommended a £3.6 billion takeover by the Czech billionaire’s group. The deal contained several contractual assurances agreed by the group in
