Most recently, he served as CEO of Modulaire Group, a global leader in modular services, where he successfully managed the company’s sale and refinancing.
Higson’s extensive background includes senior roles at Wolseley U.K. and Royal Mail. It includes experience in advisory positions with McKinsey & Company and Advent International.
His expertise in navigating complex, global organizations will be crucial as Vertical scales its operations.
Steve Vellacott: VP of Airworthiness & Head of Design Organization
Steve Vellacott steps into the role of VP of Airworthiness and Head of Design Organization, with a wealth of experience in structural engineering and eVTOL programs.
Previously, Vellacott served as Chief Technology Officer and Head of Design at Lilium, where he led the design, development, and certification of its eVTOL aircraft.
Before that, he spent over 30 years at Leonardo Helicopters, holding key leadership roles in civil and military programs.
His close collaboration with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on aircraft certification earned him recognition as a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society in 2018. Vellacott’s expertise will ensure the VX4 meets rigorous safety and design standards.
Eric Samson: VP Programme-Hybrid
Eric Samson has been appointed VP Programme-Hybrid, spearheading Vertical’s hybrid-electric VTOL strategy. A seasoned aerospace leader, Samson joined Vertical in 2020 as Senior Vice President of Engineering and Head of Design Organization.
He has been instrumental in designing, building, and testing the VX4 while preparing it for certification. With prior roles at Jet Aviation and Gulfstream Aerospace, Samson brings deep knowledge of aircraft design and systems integration, positioning him to lead Vertical’s innovative hybrid-electric initiatives.
Pushing Toward 2025 Milestones
These leadership changes come at a critical time for Vertical Aerospace. The company recently achieved a historic milestone: the first piloted wingborne flight of a winged eVTOL in European public airspace.
