Vicar amazed after letter delivered with VERY cheeky message scribbled on front instead of an address

A VICAR was amazed to receive a letter sent to him without an address – and only a very cheeky message on the front.

John Inge, Bishop of Worcester, had no idea how Royal Mail posties managed to deliver the envelope, which gave few clues as to how to find him.

A cheeky sender simply scribbled “The Lord Bishop and his sexy wife,” on the front, before adding “Worcester” to help narrow things down.

Dr Inge received the post on Friday and was quick to applaud Royal Mail for tracking him down.

Sharing a picture of the letter on Twitter, he wrote: “Good old Royal Mail. This arrived safely yesterday.”

Dr John Inge is married to H-J Colston, a fluent Mandarin speaker and director of Engage With China – working to improve knowledge of the country and its languages.

And the besotted Bishop has long been told he is punching.

He told The Telegraph: “When I married my wife people said I was punching above my weight and I have to agree.

“We both found it very funny when the letter arrived addressed in that way.”

He added: “She thought it was very amusing and was happy for me to tweet it.

“I’m all for Twitter being fun and not just for miserable things.”

The letter to Dr Inge reportedly came from a pal who had earlier joked with him about how to address him properly in writing.

And users were quick to question how Royal Mail knew the letter was for.

Gareth Thomas, Emeritus Professor of Employment Law at University of East Anglia commented: “Can’t help wondering whether it was the first or the second line of the address that provided the clinching piece of information.”

Someone else wrote: “And is she?” to which Dr Inge replied: “Of course!”

It comes after a care worker was astonished when the Royal Mail managed to deliver a letter which had his “life story” on the front instead of an address.

The writer had attempted to find Feargal Lynn, from Cushendall in Co. Antrim, by writing on the envelope that he “lives across from the Spar”.

Other details featured were the names of his parents, Mary and Joseph, his home address after he got married, and that he used to “run discos in the parochial hall”.

The author also noted he was “friends with the fella who runs the butchers in Waterfoot”.

Amazingly, the letter was delivered safely.
