Vinted sellers cancelling orders over ‘ridiculous’ feature they ‘hate so much’

‘I thought there was some kind of glitch,’ one user said

Vinted users say they have had to cancel orders over a feature on the app that has left them angry.

The second-hand selling platform has become one of the leading online marketplaces for both sellers and buyers, with many using it to sell their unwanted clothes, shoes, books and household items.

Users are able to send and receive parcels via a number of different postage services available on the app, such as Royal Mail post, Evri delivery and InPost Lockers. Currently sellers can disable certain options depending on what they have available to them.

When purchasing an item, a buyer chooses from a list of available postage options. By being able to personalise this as a seller, it means you will have more control over how you get your items to buyers.

For example, someone living in a remote area may not have a postage locker close to them, so may choose not to offer that type of delivery. Some also choose to disable options that require a printer to print out a delivery label.

However, some Vinted users have noticed that sales are going through with postage services that they have disabled on their account.

One Vinted user took to social media to share their frustration after spotting a message from Vinted that popped up when they tried to disable certain shipping options. The message read: “If a member can only buy from you with a disabled option, we may still offer it”.

The perplexed Reddit user, NewspaperEconomy0336, started a thread with a screenshot of their postage settings and the message and it turned out plenty of people shared their frustrations. They wrote: “Someone bought from me and selected [Royal Mail] but I remembered that I turned it off so was really confused and it turned out that this has been a new thing lol.”

Some users complained that they have had to cancel orders after realising they are unable to ship their items. SomethingPeach wrote: “I’ve had to cancel on so many people because of this. Zero point in giving us the option to choose if they’re just going to ignore it.”

TippyTurtley added: “Utterly pointless function”, and I_came_from_mars said: “Then what’s the point of letting us disable it”.

Inquisitive-owl said: “Ugh, please tell me they don’t let people buy the options that require at-home printed labels? I disabled all of those as we don’t have a working printer…”

Disastrous_fox said: “Honestly hate this so much. I keep getting inpost and Royal Mail. My town has no inpost lockers, closest is a 25 minute drive. And I have no post office. Post office is a 10 minute drive but there’s never any parking and only open 4 hours a day, not on weekends. Drives me mad”.

CaterpillarLake said: “I know! This is ridiculous. I’m not driving 80 miles to two cities over because there’s no drop off point for the option vinted has decided I have to use. It’s stupid. If a buyer can only use one postal option then they should only be shown items that can be posted with that option. You can’t force sellers to use a shipping service they don’t have access to!”

Darlingfeline said: “I find this very confusing. Surely if you are unable to post it that way then they’re not getting their item anyway so why bother?”, and Xsugarcubex said: “I literally hate that sm, someone selected [Royal Mail] and the drop-off point was nowhere near me”.

Koalabear20 wrote: “I was so confused when someone bought something using a disabled shipping option. I thought there was some kind of glitch, i even messaged customer service and they were super unhelpful, was like talking to a brick wall lol.”

Other comments included: “Wow, that’s stupid. I have in my profile which mailing options I provide and I will cancel the order if a buyer picks a wrong one. There’s just no way I’m gonna drive 20 km to the nearest delivery point. In most cases they’re happy to rebuy if you explain what happened.”

Vinted said it allows customers to choose disabled shipping options in certain circumstances to ensure that “at least one option is always available”. The platform said sellers are able to cancel the transaction if they are unable to use the selected shipping option.

A spokesperson for Vinted told the Manchester Evening News: “Sellers are able to adjust their shipping options based on their preference, enabling and disabling certain carriers. However, some shipping options cannot be disabled to ensure that at least one option is always available to buyers.

“In cases when a purchase is made with a seller’s disabled carrier, but the seller is unable to use that shipping provider, they can simply cancel the transaction.”
