When Mary Ranjer, a working mother of six, applied for food assistance in June, she had to wait until mid-August to receive the help. Ranjer and her husband both work, but tough economic times have forced them to apply for food stamps. The Ranjers are among a growing number of Abilenians who have had to apply for and wait for help.
