Walkers called on to take on Walk for Wards fundraiser

The picturesque charity walk is back on Sunday, September 24, to raise money for the hospital.

Tickets include access to three beautiful walks, with views across the river Thames and estate gardens, and a medal at the end.

After the success of last year, the charity has included a further 15km route that takes walkers into the stunning Hardwick Estate.

Martin Butler, Community Fundraising Manager for the charity said: “The event starts and finishes at the front of the beautiful Mapledurham House.

“We are inviting participants to bring a picnic to enjoy in the grounds after the walk –there might even be a few onsite goodies!”

The event is supported by Chancellors, a spokesperson said: “Having been involved in last year’s event, we are very excited to see Walk for Wards grow in size and to be able to help raise even more funds for such a worthy cause.”

Royal Berks Charity is an NHS organisation, so relies on the generosity and support from the local community to help support the hospital. Donations raised by the event will go towards enhancing the level of care provided by the hospital, like supplying the best medical equipment, and helping staff, patients and their families.

Walk for Wards includes three routes: a 5km,10km and a 15km. Tickets cost £10 and children under 5 can walk for free. Dogs are free too.

The charity are encouraging people to sign up for tickets as soon as possible due to the popularity of last year.

Walkers are reminded to wear appropriate footwear, and due to the rough terrain the routes are not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
