Warning about Royal Mail scam emails by Action Fraud

Officials are warning people to remain vigilant after they received reports of scam emails from Royal Mail.

Action Fraud, the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime, is warning the public to be cautious after they received 400 reports about fake emails purporting to be from Royal Mail.

The emails claim that the recipient missed a delivery and has a parcel waiting for them.

The links in the emails lead to genuine-looking Royal Mail websites that are designed to steal personal and financial information.

A spokesperson for Action Fraud said: “If you have any doubts about a message, contact the organisation directly.

“Don’t use the numbers or address in the message – use the details from their official website.

“Your bank, or any other official source, will never ask you to supply personal information via email.”

If you have received a suspicious email, forward it onto the Suspicious Email Reporting Service, report@phishing.gov.uk
