ESSEX residents are being warned of a new text “scam” from fraudsters posing as the Royal Mail.
Essex Trading Standards has issued the warning following text messages being sent to residents purporting to be from the Royal Mail.
The text claims they cannot deliver a parcel as address information is missing, telling the recipient to update their details via a link attached.
Residents are urged to ignore the message and not to click the link, which leads to a “scam” website asking for personal information.
An Essex Trading Standards spokesman said: “Have you received a scam message like this? These are scam text messages. Do not click the link.
“The text message leads to a fake but very convincing copy of the official Royal Mail website, complete with accurate logos, branding and font.
“The page asks for personal information.”
Members of the public are told to report any suspicious text messages by forwarding them to 7726.
