Warning to delivery drivers after increase in attacks in Coventry

A WARNING has gone out to delivery drivers in Coventry after several were attacked for goods they were carrying, cash they were collecting, food orders or even their vehicles.

Coventry Police is now working with the big delivery firms, including Royal Mail, Amazon, Just Eat, Uber Eats and the major supermarkets in a bid to prevent further incidents.

But delivery drivers are also being warned to be on their guard.

They should be aware of vehicles following them and situations which ‘do not look or feel right’. In these instances they should not make the delivery, and should stay in their vehicle and report suspicious activity to the police or their employer.

Engines should not be left running or keys left in ignitions and doors to cars and vans should always be locked. Vehicles, where possible, should be fitted with approved vehicle trackers and dash cams.

Businesses delivering takeaway food should take payment in advance.

And if drivers feel there is a threat to their or someone else’s life should call 999 immediately.
