Watford MP turns postman for the day in Royal Mail round

Watford’s MP donned a high-vis jacket and turned into Postman Matt for a day during a Friday morning delivery round.

Matt Turmaine presented the ‘Employee of the Month’ award at Royal Mail’s Caxton Way delivery office last week, before chatting with staff and managers.

“The posties do a great job, they are key workers and out there in all weathers,” he said. “Sometimes they may be the only person someone sees that day.”

Mr Turmaine then climbed into one of the new electric vans, driven by postie Steve from South Oxhey, to learn about delivering letters and parcels.

Mr Turmaine surprised a woman on her doorstep in Buckingham Road by introducing himself while handing over a large parcel.

Postie Steve said: “It’s our goal to deliver a first-class service at all times.

“No two days in this job are ever the same and certainly you don’t get to discuss what you do to an MP every day of the week. It was good to meet Matt.”
