‘We are truly grateful to our loyal customers…’ – 20,000 households to be offered 10% off shop after car park reopens at Stoke-on-Trent supermarket

Twenty-thousand households are being offered discounts on their supermarket shop – to reward customers for their patience during ‘disruptive’ demolition works next to a busy store.

Iceland has been handing out 10 per cent discount vouchers to shoppers using its Hanley store this week.

It follows the reopening of the Gilman Place car park, in Hanley, which had been closed for months as part of the ongoing demolition of the former East-West Precinct.

And the offer is to be extended to 20,000 households as part of a mass maildrop.

Shoppers had struggled to access Iceland by car after the back car park was blocked off for the demolition works. Fifteen signs were also erected to try to help customers find the shop.

Jessica Rowley, aged 21, of Longton, said: “I usually go to Iceland after my shift so it’s much easier to do a big shop now.”

Michael Smith, aged 76, of Fenton, added: “This makes everyone’s lives so much easier. You can’t park on the road outside anyway because there are always taxis or Iceland vans there.”

The offer comes as Iceland prepares to open its latest Food Warehouse store, on Hanley’s Century Retail Park, on Tuesday, July 23.

An Iceland spokesman said: “We are truly grateful to all of our loyal Iceland customers who have borne with us through the disruptive building works around our Hanley store.

“We are delighted to see the nearby Gilman Place car park reopen as this makes access to the store so much easier.

“We have been handing out 10 per cent discount vouchers at the store, both to welcome back old customers and to encourage new ones to shop at Iceland.

“In the coming weeks we will be extending this offer to 20,000 homes in the area through a Royal Mail door drop, with the voucher valid until August 31 so that parents can use it to help them stock up throughout the school summer holidays.”
