Well-known names feature on Property Power List

Emma Osmundsen

Prominent individuals from across the region have featured on South West Business Insider’s Property Power List 2020.

Published in full in the current issue of South West Business Insider, the list shines a light on people whose work and projects are really making a difference.

In first position is Gavin Bridge, director at Cubex Land, whose influence on the property scene is showing no sign of waning any time soon.

Bridge was a co-founder of the business which has helped transform the centre of Bristol. Work has already started on the latest scheme, Halo, a seven storey office block on the site of the former Avon Fire and Rescue’s headquarters.

Marvin Rees, mayor of the city of Bristol, also makes the list, in third place. The mayor made housing his key priority when he was elected into office four years ago.

The council has pledged to build 2,000 new homes each year but has been forced to scale down plans in the wake of the pandemic. His progress on easing the city’s housing burden will be judged in next spring’s elections.

In fifth place is Barra Mac Ruairi, chief property officer, University of Bristol. As the man in charge of Bristol University’s property portfolio Mac Ruairi is in charge of a huge portfolio covering hundreds of different locations.

The biggest project he is involved in is the university’s new campus at Temple Meads on the former Royal Mail sorting office site. The £300m campus will span seven acres and provide teaching, research and innovation space for 3,000 students and 800 members of staff.

Emma Osmundsen, managing director Exeter City Living, is in tenth position.

Osmundsen is one of the leading global voices in the development and delivery of low energy, healthy and climate resilient homes and buildings. In 2008 she headed up the development of the UK’s first multi-residential certified Passivhaus scheme for Exeter City Council. Since then Emma has been responsible for delivering more than 100 Passivhaus homes across the city.

The full Property Power List is in the current issue of South West Business Insider, out now.
