West Ham full takeover expected amid Daniel Kretinsky bombshell

West Ham could soon be heading for a change in ownership as Daniel Kretinsky is understood to be considering selling his stake.

The East Londoners’ hierarchy has come under fire in recent years after fans have vented their frustrations at the way David Sullivan and Karren Brady are running the club.

Kretinsky bought a 27 per cent stake for around £200million in November 2021 and was expected to pursue a full takeover further down the line.

Under the terms of West Ham’s move to the London Stadium, their owners were liable to pay a punitive financial penalty to the government if the club were sold for more than £300million.

However, that clause expired two years ago and Kretinsky hasn’t pursued a full takeover deal.

TBR Football reported on 21 March Kretinsky is exploring the possibility of selling his stake in the Premier League side.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed he’s been told the Czech billionaire has “fallen out of love with West Ham”.

Kretinsky moved to buy Royal Mail last year, with the £3.6billion takeover approved in December.

West Ham owners could agree full takeover deal

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted West Ham could be available for a full takeover in the near future.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It looked fascinating when Kretinsky came in.

“He was tipped to be buying the whole club and he was going to just do it bit by bit.

“If I remember correctly, there was just a contract around the stadium with the city and the owners there that they couldn’t sell the whole club or else they’d have to pay a portion of that valuation back to the city.

“He didn’t go forward for whatever reason. I’ve been told he fell in love with West Ham, but then seems to have fallen out of love with West Ham.

“I think it isn’t just Kretinsky that might be selling his stake. I think the whole club at some stage could be looking to be acquired.

“As I often do, if you went down the whole league table and you looked at each club, you’d think that probably West Ham is the one, maybe with Wolves as well, are the two clubs that could be for sale in the near future.”
