West Kilbride Main Street roadworks: end in sight

The main road surface is due to be completed by the end of this week, with additional works possibly taking place the following week.

The North Ayrshire Council roads manager said: “The works squad have been doing different tasks over the extents of the job, kerbing, lifting ironwork, etc.

“It doesn’t always look like they are achieving much, but these tasks need done prior to laying the final surface.

“The surfacing course will be laid from today onwards, with the surface being complete by the end of business on Friday.

“The road markings will hopefully be substantially complete by that time, with anything not complete being done in the evenings of the following week which should be of minor inconvenience to residents and road users.”

Councillor Todd Ferguson has also provided additional information regarding the post box at the corner of Manse Road, after concerns were raised following its removal.

He said: “I spoke to the roads team in 2022 and again earlier this year about dropping the kerb at Manse Road to allow mobility scooters and prams easier access crossing at that point.

“There were numerous obstructions and the plans were to alter the road surface to allow better access without moving anything, including the post box.

“However, on undertaking the works and based on discussions with Royal Mail the decision as taken to re-site the post box at a new location.

“The plans are to have it reinstated near to the bus shelter on the opposite side of Manse Road. I can assure you that there were never any plans to remove it from the village.”
