Sightings of ‘panther-like’ cats has sparked a flurry of readers to get in touch, claiming similar experiences.
Following our story that black hair caught on a barbed wire fence following a sheep attack offered “definitive proof” of the big cats’ existence, readers have posted their recollections of big cat sightings.
James Patrick White said: ” I saw one about 15 years ago at Toadsmoor Lake and spoken to people who’ve seen one where I go fishing.”
Mollie Davis, a trainee manager at the ice cream factory on Rodborough Common, was driving her car to work at 1pm last July when she spotted the ‘Labrador-sized’ mystery black-coated beast in broad daylight near the car park next to the parlour.
“It stopped in the road and looked at me in my car,” she said. “I thought it was a dog at first, but then I noticed it had a long tail, and then it came to me and I was quite shocked when it stopped in the road and looked at me.”
Debbie Baker was in her car when she spotted a big cat: “I saw it crossing the Ebley bypass by Sainsbury’s. It sauntered across the road and then ran up into a field towards Middleyard – all three of us in the car saw it.”
Forensic scientists at a top laboratory have now confirmed that the hair matches the DNA of a big cat species with a 99% match.
