What £1 could buy 30 years ago as people say ‘we had it so good’

A stroll down memory lane has led social media users to declare ‘we had it so good’ in the 90s. It was a time when a £1 coin went a long way, leaving many feeling very nostalgic.

An Instagram post by @my90sthings shared a reel showing exactly what a quid could get you in 1994 – leaving many pining for “the glory days”. For just one shiny pound coin, people could buy two litres of petrol, priced at 43.9p, or three cans of Coca Cola which cost 32p each.

A portion of chips and gravy would set you back 82p, and a National Lottery ticket was just a pound. A single pound would also get you 10 Freddo chocolate bars or 10 packs of Space Raider crisps, priced 10p each. You’d also get change from a 99 ice cream cone or could spend the lot on four Snickers bars, then priced 20p.

The video also features two pints of milk, costing just 35p, and Royal Mail stamps costing 25p for first class, the Daily Star reports. Brits responded by calling today’s prices “criminal”, with one viewer saying: “We had it so good back in the 90s and we didn’t know it!”

“I’d easily go back to the 90s and stay there forever,” another comment read. “I don’t care about having this advanced technology. It was the best of times, everyone is woke these days.” Another joked: “These prices are what I expect still when walking into a shop. Only to be rudely awakened.”
